COMPETITION SCHOOL

Looking to race wheel to wheel with NASA? If you do not have extensive race ("wheel to wheel") experience with another recognized organization, this school is a requirement before you take your first green flag. Eligibility requirements:

• A current Time Trial License in good standing
• 8+ days of driving experience in HPDE4 (or equivalent) and/or a strong recommendation from the HPDE4 Group Leader that you are “ready”
• Car Requirements: Participants are encouraged to attend the school with a “race car” but it is NOT an absolute requirement. NOTE: “Race Car” means it has a full cage, window nets, fire system, kill switch, steering lock disabled, current SA helmet, HANS or similar, full suit, etc.
• Medical Requirements: Drivers do NOT need a valid NASA Medical, but those who do and have a race car which passes annual tech requirements will be allowed to join the real NASA Race on Sunday (pending acceptable performance in the class up until then)
• “Comp School” Expiration Date: Drivers must participate in at least 1 NASA sprint race within 1 year of completing Comp School or they may be required to re-take the school again
• Risk Disclaimer: Due to the nature of the exercises required to evaluate and prepare drivers for wheel to wheel racing, the risk during the school is higher than HPDE/TT (where body contact with other cars is unacceptable). While body contact should not happen during racing, it can and does happen and Comp School participants need to accept that unintentional contact could happen during the school as well.
• Expectations: Drivers should expect they will be in class or participating in on track exercises for the majority of the weekend. There will not be time to sign up for any other driving groups. However, the class schedule will be adjusted to accommodate at least 1 session per day for current Time Trial participants so they may maintain their season points accumulation. Additionally, reading/understanding of the NASA CCRs prior to the class is an expectation.

The following Registration options will not be available until Nov 17, 2026 -->

HPDE1 – Beginner

Classroom instruction plus 1:1 in-car coaching. Passing allowed only on main straights with a point-by.

HPDE2 – Novice

For drivers who are comfortable without an in-car instructor. Run group rules are similar to HPDE1. Passing is limited and controlled. No passengers allowed.

HPDE3 – Intermediate

For drivers with solid experience and consistent pace. Passing is allowed in approved zones with some restrictions and point-bys.

HPDE4 – Advanced

For experienced, predictable drivers. Open passing with courtesy and point-bys expected.

Time Attack (Sunday only) – $30

For drivers in HPDE3 or above. Includes a transponder rental. Three laps -- one warm up and two hot laps. One fastest lap counts.

Must be combined with HPDE3, HPDE4, Time Trial, or Race Group.

Time Attack (Sunday only) – $20 (no rental transponder)

For drivers in HPDE3 or above. Does not include a transponder rental. Three laps -- one warm up and two hot laps. One fastest lap counts.

Must be combined with HPDE3, HPDE4, Time Trial, or Race Group.

Time Trial (TT)

Competitive session for fastest lap times. Requires a valid NASA Time Trial or NASA Competition license.

Race Group

Wheel-to-wheel racing for licensed competitors. Requires a valid NASA Competition Racing License.
